Legal importance of truth serum
A variety of drugs have been tested, various issues have been raised by using these types of drugs. However, there is no drug proven to cause truth-telling. These drugs are used by investigation departments. Western systems and legal experts do not recommend these drugs as investigative tools. In the USA, the use of these drugs is a potential violation of the 5th Amendment of the USA constitution. In the European Court of Human Rights, concerns have been raised arguing that the use of truth serum is considered a violation of a human right. It could be considered a form of torture. It is considered a violation of the Inter-American Convention to Prevent and Punish Torture. Truth serum is used against psychotic patients as part of the old. It is the discredited practice of psychiatry. It is no longer used. In a therapeutic context, the controlled administration of intravenous hypnotic medication is called narcosynthesis. Dr, William Bleckwenn first documented such an application. The practice of such drugs is now widely considered to be a form of torture.
